How to Set Up a Facebook Lead Generation Campaign That Works

Marketing and business professionals are always on the lookout for new ways to reach audiences and generate leads (and eventually sales!). It’s simply the nature of the beast. But, for most, lead generation tools and efforts can be all over the map.

Ever wish you could find people on the social networks they’re already using—like Facebook—and encourage them to click through to your website? That’s the simple idea of a Facebook Lead Generation ad. Here’s how to set up a Facebook Lead ad that really works.

How to Set Up a Facebook Lead Ad for your CO Business

Anyone with a Facebook for Business account can set up ads on the social network no matter where they live and work. These ads will allow potential customers (that you choose to target) to access your special offers, coupons, and information without ever leaving the Facebook app. It makes lead generation easier for you and your customers—here’s how to set it up.

1. Make sure you have access.

First, you want to make sure you have access to the Facebook business page for your company. You’ll need admin access, the URL to your website’s privacy policy, and a creative image for your ad.

2. Create an ad

Once you’re ready, you’ll open Ads Manager and select ‘Create Ad’.

3. Choose the campaign objective.

Here, our campaign objective will be ‘Lead Generation’ (which is located under ‘Consideration’ in the sales funnel).

4. Name your ad

Choose an ad name that you will remember and that makes sense for the campaign you are running. For example, if you are running a lead generation ad about Men’s Shoes, label it accordingly (i.e. Men’s Shoes - Lead Gen - Date).

5. Set your audience targeting

Once you get to the targeting page, you’ll be able to customize the target audience by location, age, gender, language, and many other target settings (like how they shop, Internet habits, etc.).

Pay attention to the ‘Audience Size’ meter on the right.

6. Place it

If you are a business owner planning to create Facebook ads yourself, it’s recommended to select “automatic placements” and let Facebook take charge here.

7. Customize the budget

You’ll also need to set a budget for your ad. Ask your team how much they’d be willing to spend for one ad. Then, do some research on ad spend and reach in your industry. Facebook ads work as an auction system, so choose a reasonable budget for your business, location, and competition.

8. Choose the layout and customize the form

You can choose how your ad will appear here. Don’t forget to test different options on multiple devices to get a feel for the final product. You’ll also customize the headline, text, and CTA in this step.

9. Select lead information

Next, you’ll choose which lead questions to ask. Ideally, it’s best to stick to one or two questions because the click-through rate drops ask the number of questions increases. This is any information you are hoping to glean from a new audience to better target them in the future.

10. Customize your "Thank You" screen

Then, you will check the setting for the privacy policy and customize your "thank you" screen.

11. Review your ad for errors

Check your ad completely to make sure it’s error-free. You’ve worked so hard—you don’t want this to go to waste!

12. Place an order and wait for the results

Last, place your order and wait. You can choose the length of time to run your campaign and when the campaign ends, you’ll be able to analyze your results.
